sps = shoulder pads
Gene: sps
Feature/structure: Global, elytra, abdomen, thorax, head
Linkage Group:  2
Origin: EMS gene extraction using Dch3
Description: • Gnathals [mandibles, maxillary and labial palps, plus prementum], are, as a unit, deflected ventrally away from the usual plane of the gnathal appendages.
• Dorsal T1 has two large indentations, each located midway between midline and the lateral edge of the pronotum. Ventrally, the T1 epimera are incomplete. The coxae appear sunken, due to an enlargement of the coxal socket.
• Mesosternellum [T2] and metasternellum [T3] meet incompletely with the posterior intercoxal process of each segment [sclerites which meet between JT2 and T3 coxae do not fit together smoothly].
• Mesepimera and metepisterna are slightly enlarged laterally and do not neatly fit together.
• Abdominal pleurites are laterally enlarged. The abdomen is more laterally convex than wild-type.
• Posterior margins of A4 and A5 have faint pas-like "smiles".
• Elytra are always divergent and "alligatored". Elytral and wing articulations with the body appear unusual.
